In Loving Memory of GingaPaul

I just got an email a few minutes ago that Paul Squires, who I always called GingaPaul, has passed away.
No details - just that he's gone.
He was one of the finest poets, funniest men, and most inquisitive minds I've ever known.

He was a bloody genius at word play and man, we used to have some wonderful times back in my Princess blogging days.

He wrote a poem about me and I'll have to track that down.
Right now all i can do is cry and wish I had answered his email last week, instead of setting it aside for when i wasn't so busy.
These people we never meet, they come into our lives and affect us profoundly.
They change who we are, and how we look at the world.
GingaPaul, dear friend - it was a blessing to have known you.

My latest work of art

David with the Moronic Ox requested to publish the digital art i did about the oil spill. It's up now there if you wanna check it out. The response to this piece has been overwhelming. Several friends have picked it up and reposted so more people can see it. It's gratifying to have created something that moves so many people. I especially love the commentary David wrote.

Just for the fun of it - blast from the past

Mamie Van Doren, who by the way looks absolutely knockout gorgeous still today, posted an old video of herself on a show called "What's My Line." I've never heard of the show before, but it looks kinda cool. What is truly fascinating is the clear slice of the past it lets us peek at. I'm assuming this ran in the late 50s or early 60s since other guests of the show included Jayne Mansfield, Ava Gardner, Jane Russell.

2010? No Silly, it's 1950s Stepford America

We will have a perfect nation of perfect people to meet our standards of normal - welcome to nazi america. Clit chopping distasteful? No worries - they now have a drug to fix that nasty proclivity for being gay:
"Pediatric endocrinologist Maria New isn't just trying to prevent lesbianism by treating pregnant women with an experimental hormone. She's also trying to prevent the births of girls who display an "abnormal" disinterest in babies, don't want to play with girls' toys or become mothers, and whose "career preferences" are deemed to "masculine."

"The majority of researchers and clinicians interested in the use of prenatal “dex” focus on preventing development of ambiguous genitalia in girls with CAH. CAH results in an excess of androgens prenatally, and this can lead to a “masculinizing” of a female fetus’s genitals. One group of researchers, however, seems to be suggesting that prenatal dex also might prevent affected girls from turning out to be homosexual or bisexual."

"Meyer-Bahlburg writes that “CAH women as a group have a lower interest than controls in getting married and performing the traditional child-care/housewife role. As children, they show an unusually low interest in engaging in maternal play with baby dolls, and their interest in caring for infants, the frequency of daydreams or fantasies of pregnancy and motherhood, or the expressed wish of experiencing pregnancy and having children of their own appear to be relatively low in all age groups.”

Because not playing with dolls or wanting to grow up to be a housewife and have babies is wrong you know.

What the fuck are we regressing to? I swear i was being mildly sarcastic when i said welcome to 1950s but i'm afraid that is exactly where we are headed back to. 

Oh and this was a lovely little snippet from the article:

“The challenge here is... to see what could be done to restore this baby to the normal female appearance which would be compatible with her parents presenting her as a girl, with her eventually becoming somebody’s wife, and having normal sexual development, and becoming a mother. And she has all the machinery for motherhood, and therefore nothing should stop that, if we can repair her surgically and help her psychologically to continue to grow and develop as a girl.”
